Media reports claim the city of Lansing is talking with a native American tribe about opening a casino in the capital city.
The Lansing State Journal and the online news service, MIRS, are reporting that talks are taking place between Lansing officials and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians about a casino in downtown Lansing.
Mayor Virg Bernero issued a statement saying his “Administration strongly supports the concept of a casino in Lansing because it would have a tremendous positive impact on (the) local economy.” He says he would “support a credible effort to build a casino gaming facility if it is the right fit for Lansing." The mayor’s office did not directly comment on any specific deal.
The weekly, Lansing City Pulse, newspaper is reporting the talks involve an area along the Grand River in downtown near the city’s convention center.
