Northern and western Michigan are in the path of a winter storm that's expected to bring more than a foot of snow and winds gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service's office in Gaylord says the storm is hitting Sunday through Monday, with much of the northwestern Lower Peninsula and eastern Upper Peninsula getting at least a foot of snow.
The weather service says driving will be dangerous Sunday and Monday, with heavy drifting on top of the snowfall itself. It says the Lake Superior and Michigan coasts could get gusts approaching 50 mph.
In western lower Michigan, the weather service forecasts 6 inches or more of snow. Greatest accumulations are expected west of U.S. 131, the north-south highway connecting Cadillac, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
