Detroit residents interested in Mayor Dave Bing’s planning project for the city have a place to go for information. The Detroit Works long-term planning team has just opened a walk-in office in Eastern Market.

Co-director Charles Cross says people looking for answers will be able to stop in and talk to someone.

"And not just talk to someone who will say, 'Oh let me take your name and we’ll have someone get back to you,'" he says. "The first person you run into in the lobby will be able to tell you about the project, and is intimately involved with the project."

The Detroit Works Project aims to re-shape land use in the city - which has lost about two-thirds of its population. The project itself got a re-boot last year, after being dogged by criticism. Many residents said they felt shut out of the process, and rumors flew that the city planned to shut down whole neighborhoods.

An open house for the Detroit Works office is today from 4 to 6 p.m.
