Last year, Rob Bliss and his social media marketing group Status Creative organized a 5,000 participant video featuring residents of Grand Rapids “lip-dubbing” to a live version of Don McLean’s “Bye Bye, Miss American Pie.”
Not only did the YouTube video go viral with almost 5 million views, but the enormous ensemble also won the Guinness World Record for largest lip dub event.
This year, the Lansing-based employee-placement firm, The Rock Star Factory, aims to unseat the reigning lip dub champions with a project called LipDub Michigan.
The new video will highlight Michigan’s workforce across the state, said Julie Mann, LipDub Michigan organizer, in an interview with MLive.
“We have so much talent within the state,” Mann said. “It’s a very exciting opportunity for us to have a different platform to … help businesses understand and people understand what the state can offer.”
The talented state of Michigan currently holds 46 other Guinness World Records for everything from the largest ball of plastic wrap, to the longest line of tacos (847) ever assembled.
The project is only in the planning stages now, and they're looking for volunteers to help them organize the event.
