This Saturday, the University Musical Society at the U of M is celebrating a hundred years since the opening of Hill Auditorium.

The celebration will feature a premiere screening of a documentary about 100 Years of UMS Performances in Hill Auditorium that will teach visitors about history of Hill as a performance hall and as a landmark building in Ann Arbor.

Jim Leija is with the University Musical Society in Ann Arbor. He says, “the idea is to open up the building and talk about what makes the acoustics so special; what's the special significant history; to focus a bit on the architecture of the building; and also to tell the story of what's happened there and what the building has meant to our community.”

Leija says the celebration this weekend will also allow visitors to take a closer look at the world-renowned acoustics of the auditorium.

“One of the things that we're doing is working with the acoustician who worked on the renovation of Hill in 2005 to describe exactly why Hill is so special acoustically and why it's one of the greatest places in the world to perform.”

Hill Anniversary events on Saturday are free and open to the public and will run from 10 am to 5 pm.
