Michelle Chamuel, of Ann Arbor, is one of six remaining contestants on NBC's show, The Voice. Chamuel is originally from Amherst, Massachusetts, and is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
This is her most recent performance:
The popular TV show is a singing competition in which four celebrity judges -- Adam Levine, Shakira, Usher and Blake Shelton -- act as coaches for their 12-person teams. Every week, artists are eliminated. This season's premiere was watched by 13.6 million viewers and the show has been aired in 47 countries.
If Chamuel wins The Voice -- as determined by viewers' votes -- she would receive $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.
Chamuel was the singer in the Ann Arbor band Ella Riot, formerly known as My Dear Disco. Both bands released one CD each, but in September 2011 Ella Riot announced that they would be pursuing their individual interests and would no longer be existing as a band.
My Dear Disco was started by U of M student Tyler Duncan and three of his fellow University of Michigan peers when they were undergraduates in the School of Music. Chamuel collaborated with Duncan before she was asked to be a part of the band.
She auditioned for The Voice in season three, but didn't make it on a team. The show is now in its fourth season.
Now, Chamuel is the last artist still standing on Usher's team.
Last week, Chamuel sang 'Grenade' by Bruno Mars and received high praise from the judges. Here's her performance:
The Voice has received recognition from the Critics' Choice Television Awards as the 'Best Reality Series - Competition' in 2012 and Producers Guild of America Awards 'Outstanding Production in Reality Television Programming' in 2013.
