This time on ArtPod, we say a sad goodbye to one of Michigan’s best writers, and wistfully wave to a summer packed with adventures, music, and general art goodness.
In today’s lineup:
Elmore Leonard was the freaking man
Detroit lost one of its greats yesterday. We’ve got an appreciation and a look back at the fabulous, game-changing career of the “Dickens of Detroit.”
After that, we’re going to go binge on Justified on Netflix as tribute.
This band is bringing their baby on tour and that’s awesome and possibly crazy!
The popular Ann Arbor group the Ragbirds are embarking on their next tour. Exciting!
And this time, they’re bringing along the teeniest band member: their lead vocalist’s brand new baby.
Spoiler: this will involve shorter tours, a road nanny, and crowd funding for A baby-friendly bus (so … it’s got a built-in diaper genie, or something? Or it folds out into a spacious three-bedroom home in a safe neighborhood with good schools?)
Oh, and we also talk about their new music, too. Just as soon as we finish making this teeny tiny banjo….
Not ready to let summer go? Neither are we: one last stop up north
Our bodies still remember all too well the bitter misery of blah-ness that is a Michigan winter.
So join us in our denial of summer’s end: we go back to that moment of vacation when you think, oh man, we have got to move here.
We’ve all been there.
Heck, northern Michigan is littered with B&Bs, cafes and art galleries run by vacationers who never left.
New ones open every summer. And every summer, some of them go bust.
So we hunted down some of the folks who are actually courageous (or crazy) enough to make the leap.
