Comedy Central is the home of some pretty creative comedy series, including Workaholics and Broad City. Now the network has ordered up a pilot for a new show called Detroiters, to be set in the Motor City.
Former Detroiters Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson are behind the show. Richardson is a new cast member of Veep on HBO, while Robinson has been a writer and featured player on Saturday Night Live.
Both Richardson and Robinson got their improv start at Second City in Detroit and Planet Ant in Hamtrack. It was there that they worked with improv teacher Margaret Edwartowski.
Edwartowski said she’s not surprised these men landed the opportunity to pilot Detroiters.
“Besides the extreme level of talent that both of these young men have, they’ve been making their way in the business for quite some time and making a lot of friends that can make these kind of things happen,” Edwartowski said.
The Detroiters pilot is set to shoot in Detroit this spring. Edwartowski has a few clues about its premise: She said classic ads from years ago were the inspiration.
Listen above to hear the conversation with Edwartowski.
