The red carpet is being rolled out this Thursday in Flint.
It's the Flint Youth Film Festival, a chance for you to see the work of mid-Michigan's young filmmakers.
We were joined today by Donna Ullrich?, director of the Flint Youth Film Festival, and filmmaker Alex Douglas, a Flint resident and recent Mott Community College graduate who submitted two films to the festival.
Ullrich told us that youth filmmaking and storytelling benefit young filmmakers and their communities in "so many ways."
"They're developing their skills, and with that development of skills comes confidence. And with that confidence then comes the ability to move on anywhere in the world."
"They're developing their skills, and with that development of skills comes confidence. And with that confidence then comes the ability to move on anywhere in the world," she said. "All of this leads to the creation of artists who are also very socially conscious and become good citizens in a community."
The big red carpet event will take place this Thursday, July 28th, at the Flint Institute of Arts. But if you can't make it Thursday night, Ullrich told us you'll still get the chance to see the films by visiting the FIA during its normal hours of operation, or by visiting www.flintyouthfilmfestival.com.
You can watch one of the documentaries Alex Douglas submitted to the festival below. It's called "Parts Per Billion."
