It’s not Christmas yet, but Michigan retailers are in the holiday spirit. There are signs this will be the best holiday shopping season in Michigan in many years.
When the holiday shopping season was getting started a month ago, a survey showed a majority of Michigan retailers were optimistic that they would see increased sales compared to last Christmas. The latest data is backing up that optimism.
Tom Scott is with the Michigan Retailers Association. He says just released sales numbers from the beginning of the holiday shopping season are better than expected.
"Seeing these really good numbers in November gives us hope that they’re going t stand up in December too, and we’re going to end up with a really good season.”
Scott says his office won’t have hard numbers on December sales until sometime next month, but anecdotal information suggests Christmas shopping has stayed strong all month.
The National Retail Federation predicts holiday sales will improve by 3.3% this year. The federation actually increased their sales projection after Thanksgiving.
