The signature red kettles may be packed away, but the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign is still underway.
Money from the kettles supports the Salvation Army’s programs; helping victims of disasters, low-income seniors, and running summer camps for kids.
The non-profit carves Michigan in half. West Michigan, the Upper Peninsula and South Bend, Indiana are in the same division. That groups’ goal is $1.5 this year. They’re 84% of the way there.
The eastern division covers Flint, Ann Arbor and Detroit. Their goal is nearly five times as big at $7.8 million. At this point, they’re nearly two-thirds of the way to meeting that goal.
Both divisions set the same goals as they did last year, even though demand for their services is much higher because of the down economy.
