Ten high speed train and rail projects announced today

Earlier today, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced the investment of over $2 billion in high speed rail projects around the country.

But what are the actual projects?

The entire list is available at the Department of Transportation's website, which has the full press release.

But here are some highlights (including full descriptions from the press release on the two Michigan projects.

  1. Amtrak – NEC Power, Signal, Track, Catenary Improvements
  2. Connecticut – New Haven to Springfield Track Construction
  3. Massachusetts/Maine – Downeaster Track Improvements
  4. New York – Empire Corridor Capacity Improvements
  5. Michigan – Kalamazoo-Dearborn Service Development – $196.5 million to rehabilitate track and signal systems, bringing trains up to speeds of 110 mph on a 135-mile section of the Chicago to Detroit corridor, reducing trip times by 30 minutes.
  6. Michigan – Ann Arbor Station Project - $2.8 million for an engineering and environmental analysis to construct a new high-speed rail station in Ann Arbor, MI, that will better serve passengers and allow more than one train to serve the station simultaneously.
  7. Minnesota – Northern Lights Express
  8. North Carolina – Charlotte to Richmond Service Enhancement
  9. Texas – Dallas/Fort Worth to Houston Core Express Service
  10. California – Central Valley Construction Project Extension
