Ford is creating 2,350 new jobs in Southeast Michigan. The Ford Motor Company announced a new plan to invest $773 million into six Michigan plants.
As part of last year's agreement with the United Auto Workers, the car maker pledged to create 12,000 new hourly jobs across the country.
Todd Nissen is a spokesman for Ford. He says his company is growing across the country.
"And we're growing here in our home state, so the jobs that we add hopefully will help bring down the unemployment levels in Michigan, overall," he said. "We've got a lot of facilities here, and we've had them here for many years, and it's important that we support our local economy."
The Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Mich. is one of the expanding facilities. The added jobs will help the plant start assembling the new Ford Fusion next year.
Nissen says the jobs at assembly and part plants will go to a mix of current and new Ford employees.
