Ford released it's first quarter report with record pre-tax profits of $2.4 billion in North America.
"Ford has a product portfolio that's clicking on all cylinders, pun intended," said Daniel Howes.
Howes is the Detroit News business columnist and spoke with Michigan Radio's Cynthia Canty about Ford's future.
"It's nothing but a good news story and I think they're moving into a period of growth now. [Ford] is building five new plants in China and two in India."
But the Detroit auto company isn't only looking to expand overseas. Howes noted that Ford also has plans to expand its reach within the United States, too.
"That hasn't been the story of Detroit car companies for thirty years."
Two models that have been doing exceptionally well in the US market are the Ford Fusion and the Escape compact SUV.
But despite positive numbers in the U.S., Ford's market in Europe and South America are another story. What does Ford need to do to repeat its success abroad?
