More cars and trucks with flat tires are pulling over to the sides of Michigan’s roads.
AAA Michigan spokeswoman Susan Hilts says its road service providers are fixing more flat tires this summer than usual.
“The roads are deteriorating,” says Hilts. “It definitely has an impact on everyone’s travel and it increases the number of flat tires we see.”
Hilts says the ultimate solution is for a new state plan to fix Michigan’s roads.
Voters in May defeated a sales tax increase that would have triggered more money for roads, education and municipalities. Both chambers responded by passing different plans in June and July, but haven’t reached a compromise.
The House and Senate will return after Labor Day.
In the meantime, Hilts recommends motorists check their tires regularly and keep them properly inflated.
