Ford Motor Company and the United Auto Workers have struck a tentative agreement on a four-year contract after three days of negotiations.
The agreement comes after a lengthy UAW strike against General Motors, which ended in a new four-year contract. It's typical for the UAW to use its first deal as a model for negotiations with the other two Detroit car companies.
The deal includes economic gains in wages and benefits, the retention or creation of 8,500 U.S. jobs, and more than $6 billion in investments in American facilities. That's according to a statement released Wednesday night by the UAW.
UAW local leaders meet Friday to go over the deal and decide whether to send it to members for a ratification vote.
The contract will affect 55,000 of Ford's hourly workers. That's the most of all of the domestic automakers.
