Michigan non-profits are hoping donors will be generous on "Giving Tuesday"

Michigan non-profits are hoping for a little holiday cheer next week.

While it’s not as big as Black Friday or Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is gaining momentum.

Giving Tuesday started in 2012 as a way to promote donations to non-profits.

Sarah Pinder of the Michigan Non-Profit Association says it’s unusual for a broad range of charities to work together on the same fundraising campaign.

“Through their collectiveness, it helps everyone in the non-profit sector,” says Pinder, “Of course, donors should be supporting causes they feel passionate about.”

Donors have a lot of options in Michigan. The state has roughly 42,000 non-profits.
