Startup CEO says neighbors, not just millionaires, can invest in Detroit too

LESTER GRAHAM

Cooperative Capital wants to help neighbors invest in Detroit.

Out-of-state investors own many of the vacant homes in Detroit. Those homes sometimes sit empty until they are stripped by scrappers or burned down by arsonists.

But a new start-up called Cooperative Capital is suggesting neighbors buy vacant houses, and it will help them do it.

Kwaku Osei is CEO of that project. He joined Stateside today to explain what this opportunity for Michiganders entails, and why he’s motivated to help residents invest in their city.
