Hundreds of Michigan Medicine nurses rallied outside the Ann Arbor hospital complex today.
Wearing red shirts, waving signs and chanting “Union busting, that’s disgusting,” the nurses called on hospital administrators to agree to a new contract.
The old contract for the 6,000 nurses expired June 30.
Katie Oppenheim is the chair of the U of M Professional Nurse Council. She says their fight for a new contract is similar to other nurses stuck in unproductive talks with corporately owned hospitals around Michigan.
“And that’s really sad day that we really have to speak up in the same way as these corporate controlled hospitals,” says Oppenheim.
In the past, U of M hospital officials have said they are committed to working through the bargaining process to reach a contract.
Contract talks are scheduled to resume Monday.
