Tuesday is Blackout Day 2020.
Activists are encouraging African-Americans to shop today only at Black-owned businesses. The intent is to show the economic strength of African-Americans.
Dr. Alane Laws-Barker is the founder of the Black Business Alliance of Greater Lansing. She hopes all shoppers take part.
“You take that money and you redirect it to some of these businesses in the Black community. You’re actually helping the healing begin,” says Laws-Barker.
Barker sees Blackout Day as an opportunity for Black-owned businesses to establish new relationships with customers.
