MI-UCP Skating to Close the Disability Divide Charity Hockey Event
2024 will celebrate the 75th year of MI-UCP (Michigan United Cerebral Palsy). In honor of that accomplishment, a group of local hockey players of varying skill levels are teaming up as the MI-UCP Pucksters to take on the The Detroit Red Wing Alumni. The game benefits MI-UCP and the 2.3 million Michiganders with disabilities. As a result, 85% of every dollar raised from MI-UCP events goes directly to programs and services that benefit the people we serve.
The Detroit Red Wing Alumni Association, which is the oldest such organization in the NHL, now plays around 35 games a year. This group of former NHL players brings people together for a common goal: to raise spirits and raise money for some wonderful organizations like MI-UCP. The alumni roster includes such names as John Ogrodnick, Dino Ciccarelli, Darren McCarty, Dave Coulier (of TV's Full House), Todd Bertuzzi, Joe Kocur, Red Berenson and fan-favorite Mickey Redmond.
In addition to the Alumni game, this event features a sled hockey exhibition where some amazing disabled athletes play against the
MI-UCP Sledsters, a team made up of area youth and adult sled hockey players and able-bodied athletes.
Together, we have raised nearly $550,000 over the past 22 years for people with disabilities.
