"Recovery United" - A Juneteenth Block Club Extravaganza
Detroit, Michigan: As a major part of our collective history, the "Juneteenth" federal holiday commemorates one of the most integral events of the post-Civil War period; June 19th, 1865". It marks a date that initiated the liberation of African Americans who remained enslaved in the southern states for over two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863.
To celebrate this historic event, "Recovery United", will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 2:00pm - 8:00 pm, at 1851 West Grand Blvd., Detroit, Michigan 48208. This outdoor event will provide an opportunity for people to safely come together for free health, recovery, and wellness resources, fellowship, local vendors, food, and live entertainment.
This Juneteenth Block Club extravaganza is hosted by SHAR, Inc. (a.k.a. SHAR House), and ECHO Detroit, an outreach project touching lives throughout Wayne County. SHAR, a Detroit-based non-profit has served the needs of the Greater Detroit community for well over 50 years.
Dwight Vaughter, SHAR's CEO states, "Many people in our community remain trapped and enslaved by various addictions, mental and physical health conditions, trauma, housing insecurity, and other systemic issues that hinder us from being our very best." Mr. Vaughter, a person in long term recovery continues, "there's help available - and our commitment is to being people and community resources together at the same time. This Recovery United event will create an environment where learning, health promotion, and fun can occur together.
