The long-vacant Strathmore Hotel in Midtown Detroit is reportedly being rehabbed to become an apartment complex, opening in 2016. The eight-story building at 160 West Alexandrine is being gutted and cleaned up right now. Citing Midtown Detroit, Inc., the news site Curbed Detroit reports the Strathmore will complete the project of converting the space to 129 apartments in June of 2016. When we called Midtown Detroit, Inc. to confirm, we were told no one was immediately available to talk about the project.
The building is near Wayne State University School of Medicine and a neighbor to the popular Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company’s Midtown Coffee Bar and around the corner from the Majestic Theatre.
The entire Midtown area of Detroit has seen rapid development in recent years, attracting more residents. The Strathmore building is well-situated in the increasingly popular area.
