Several Michigan universities are offering free tax help for low-income families.
Ron Draayer is with Davenport University and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. He says the program is part of a greater effort to help people get their tax refunds.
"We want to bring that to help the families, which in turn, they'll hopefully spend it in our communities, and that's a plus for everybody," Draayer said.
The West Michigan VITA includes accounting students from Davenport, Aquinas College and Cornerstone University, as well as community volunteers. They brought in over $8 million last year in tax refunds and credits, Draayer said.
