Flint school board members have started weighing their options for closing schools later this year. They didn’t like the options they were given last night.
The two options presented to the school board last night included closing three elementary schools, one or two middle schools and possibly a high school.
School board members were very much against one proposal that included mixing middle schoolers and high schoolers.
But somehow, Flint school district officials have to come up with a way to eliminate a nearly four million dollar deficit. Last December, the school board agreed to do just that as part of a deficit elimination plan it sent to the state.
The school board has a little time to come up with a plan that is somewhat acceptable.
School superintendent Linda Thompson says the board has until next year’s school budget is adopted in June.
