Eastern Michigan University officials announced today they've reached a tentative agreement with the union representing EMU faculty members.
The current contract with the union was set to expire at midnight on August 31. EMU students start classes on Wednesday, September 5.
EMU officials say the contract "provides for salary increases of 2 percent per year for each year of the contract, as well as changes to health care plans."
The faculty union, the EMU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), is expected to vote on the tentative agreement on September 5. The University’s Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on the agreement at its regular meeting on September 18.
In a press release, EMU president Susan Martin said, "I appreciate the outstanding effort of both bargaining teams for their hard work and collaboration in reaching this agreement. Their work reflects our faculty’s and administration’s commitment to put students first and to ensure a great start to the new academic year."
