A community activist is making a unique protest, in hopes of rallying people in Albion to fight the closure of their high school.
With a kiss from one of his supporters, Bobby Holley started crawling. He intends to crawl, on his hands and knees, the 30 miles from Battle Creek to Albion.
He says he wants to rally the people of Albion, so they will fight the decisions to close their high school
“I believe there are funds that can keep that school open,” says Holley, “If they’re merging schools…they going to have to have funds to merge. Why not take that money that they’re going to use to merge and put it back into Albion high school.”
Albion is not merging its high school with anyone. The school board voted to close the high school and turn Albion into a K-8 school district. Doing so, district officials hope with help deflate a projected budget deficit.
The Marshall School Board will soon consider a proposal to accept high school age students from Albion.
But Holley remains undeterred.
“This is a spark….that might light the whole candle….to this community,” says Holley.
He hopes to complete his journey by Thursday.
