Parents and students in Highland Park will get a chance to hear what options they have for next year now that the high school is closing.
A couple weeks ago, the state-appointed emergency manager of Highland Parks schools announced the district would be a K-8 district only. He says there are just too few students to make it feasible.
Tonight’s meeting at Highland Park's high school building at 131 Pilgrim St. is the first chance for parents to talk to the emergency manager about the changes. It’s set from 6-8 p.m.
Parents will get a chance to hear from school leaders and Emergency Manager Don Weatherspoon. Neighboring school districts, including Detroit schools and the state-run Education Achievement Authority, are expected to be available to discuss logistics of transferring districts.
A charter school company has been managing Highland Park schools for three years. The company agreed to work for less money and shorten its contract.
