The rise in COVID-19 cases has forced Grand Rapids Public Schools to change plans for in person instruction.
GRPS has offered a hybrid option, with two days of in-person learning per week, since January.
The district was planning to expand that to four days a week after spring break, starting on April 12th.
Now those plans are changing.“Based on the increased numbers of COVID-19 cases in Kent County, and the upcoming spring break, the Kent County Health Department is advising districts to implement additional mitigation strategies for the week immediately following spring break,” said GRPS superintendent Leadriane Roby, in a video update posted online.
The district now says it will start its in-person expansion on April 19 one week later than initially planned.
The district is also telling parents that if they go out of state for spring break, they should have their kids tested for the virus before returning to school.
