University of Michigan students rallied at all three campuses Wednesday to call for more funding for U of M campuses in Flint and Dearborn.
A group of students and faculty want $100 million in additional money for the satellite campuses over the next five years.
“If they really wanted to value diversity, equity and inclusion, they would make sure that this is in this budget,” says Levi Todd, the U of M Flint student body president
Todd says the money is needed for tuition assistance, hiring more faculty, and infrastructure improvements.
Lecturers currently at the bargaining table have pushed for pay equity for faculty at the different U of M campuses. The median salary for lecturers in Ann Arbor is twice as high as those in Flint and Dearborn.
U of M officials have taken some steps to increase funding for the Flint and Dearborn campuses.
University spokesman Rick Fitzgerald says in last year’s budget process U of M President Mark Schlissel committed an additional $20 million to the Flint and Dearborn campuses over three years.
U of M's Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on budgets for each campus during its Thursday meeting.
