EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Environmental groups that a favor new federal rules regulatingcarbon emissions are holding a forum to discuss them.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued the first-ever limits on heat-trapping pollution from new power plants in March, ignoring protests from the energy industry and Republicans who fear regulation will raise electricity prices and kill off coal as an energy source.
Existing coal-fired plants wouldn't be affected, but the new rules could affect the fate of a proposed new coal-burning power plant in Michigan.
The forum's intended to give citizens a chance to file comments on the new rules. It's sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation, Clean Water Action, Health Care Without Harm and the Sierra Club.
