The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Youth Advisory Council needs your kids' opinions.
The council is seeking applications from teenagers (14-18) to help make the outdoors fun and interesting.
Organizers say they want input from all over the state and plan to even explore the use of mobile applications to learn what draws young people to enjoy the outdoors.
Ray Rustem is with the DNR and says "what we’re really looking for is some youth that are interested in the outdoors, that wants to help us and give us some insight into what the department can do to increase youth participation in outdoor recreation."
They’ll explore activities like canoeing, hiking, archery, even geo-caching to learn what draws them to enjoy the outdoors.
Rustem says he’s looking forward to hearing what teenagers have to say. "I’m hoping to really gain some insight into our youth. What they’re looking for in outdoor opportunities, what they see their connection to the outdoors being in the future."
Completed applications must be postmarked by Jan. 18, 2013, and should be sent to:
ATTN: NRC Youth Conservation Council
P.O. Box 30028
Lansing, MI 48909
He says the DNR is also developing scholarships so the cost to participate won't be a factor in applying.
