Classes have been canceled at Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University.
Hundreds of schools and many state offices are closed today.
Gov. Rick Snyder announced that he has partially activated Michigan's Emergency Operations Center in response to the weather.
Key personnel from various state agencies will report to the center to assist communities .
