Snyder to deliver second energy message

Gov. Rick Snyder

Governor Rick Snyder delivering his State of the State address Wednesday night.

Governor Snyder is joining the debate as the Legislature embarks on the first major re-write of Michigan’s energy policy in many years. He will deliver a speech on the topic in metro Detroit.

“Hopefully, we can establish a strong energy policy for Michigan that can last the next decade or so,” he says. The governor says he has some things he’d like lawmakers to keep in mind.

“It’s about having an adaptable policy that’s really focused on the principles of affordability, adaptability, and environmental protection.”

Two question the Legislature’s grappling with are how much competition should the state’s major utilities face, and what’s the role that “green,” renewable energy will play.

This is the governor’s second special message on energy. The first was during his first term, in December of 2013.
