Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, by executive order, has re-established the state's commission focusing on reducing lead poisoning among children.
The previous commission was disbanded in 2006 because the state legislature did not renew the statute that created it.
The commission will have a statewide focus.
Snyder says the new commission will focus on the elimination, rather than prevention, of lead poisoning.
He says the commission will present its report by November, 2016.
"It's to focus on all the key steps, I believe, of this process," says Snyder, " including how do we get more children tested for lead, how do we do a better follow-up with that, how do we do better programming to eliminate the risk factors, do investigations and such, and then do better data and reporting of information and transparency of that information statewide."
Lt. Governor Brian Calley will chair the commission.
