State environmental officials say Detroit fire inspectors have found a number of liquid filled pits in the basement of a Detroit warehouse owned by Gary Sayers.
Sayers was recently imprisoned for violations of environmental laws at his company, Electro-Plating Services in Madison Heights.
State officials say the Detroit site was inspected in December as part of the probe of contamination that had seeped out of Sayers' Madison Heights facility onto the I-696 freeway.
A spokeswoman for the the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy had no explanation as to why state officials did not discover the pits when they inspected the building.
The warehouse on Commonwealth Street in Detroit has been secured and contractors will test the liquids on Monday.
