Detroit-made lava cakes will soon be on Air France flights

Chez Chloe

Detroit-made mini lava cakes will soon be featured on Air France flights starting March 1.

Parisian-born Chloe Sabatier is the owner of Chez Chloe in Detroit where she specializes in traditional French lava cakes. She was stunned to learn her cakes would be on-board flights Air France flights from Detroit to Paris.

“I couldn’t believe it! I started crying… and the first reaction I had was ‘I need to tell my parents.’”

In October of last year, Sabatier was selling her lava cakes at a local farmers market. The Detroit  Air France manager was there with his family, tried the cakes, loved them and the rest is history.

“The next day he called me and we scheduled a meeting and he told me that he would love to bring the cakes on board to Paris to support local business and something that is French, because I am French but I bake  here locally in Detroit," she says.

The chocolate lava cakes are a traditional French recipe Sabatier got from her grandmother.

Starting March 1, Air France will offer a trio of freshly baked mini-lava cakes on-board the Detroit-Paris flights with berries and a cream sauce.

But there's a catch.

The sweets will only be offered in business class.

Sabatier says she will be baking 360 mini-lava cakes each week.
