Some Detroit children will have a chance to read their Christmas lists while sitting on the lap of a Santa Claus who looks like them.
BLAC Magazine will host a free event this Saturday and Sunday for children to visit and get their picture with a black Santa.
For years, Northland Mall in Southfield was a "sure-fire place" for parents to take their children for a photo with a black Santa.
When the mall closed its doors for good last spring, BLAC editor Aaron Foley says it left a void in the region for families who make the annual December trek.
"There's something to be said about representation and seeing yourself in a very historical figure. It really says something [for children] to see their own image in one of the most kind-hearted, loveable figures of all time," Foley said.
Foley said the events in Ferndale and Lathrup Village are free to attend, but people need to register online first.
