Tom Shively found a wedding ring.
Shively has pursued metal detecting as a hobby for five years, Lansing State Journal's Judy Putnam reports.
The story starts with a woman living in Holt, Michigan named Catherine Tucker, who lost the wedding ring worn by her late husband, Chris. Chris died three years ago in a motorcycle accident.
Tucker had the ring on her middle finger while passing out candy on Halloween night, but then she lost it. Putnam wrote:
When she realized it was missing, she was heart-broken and immediately put out a plea on social media for area kids to check their candy bags. Her plight was featured on WLNS-TV and widely shared on Facebook. She scoured the yard. People called with tips but no ring, at least not the right ring. By Thursday, she was losing hope.
This is when Shively entered the picture, according to 6 News Web Staff:
When 6 News offered the services of Tom Shively, a professional with a metal detector who owns “Treasure Tom’s”, Catherine was hopeful.... The ring was located outside her front door buried under about an inch of dirt. She tells 6 News that since the ring was found “she can’t stop crying”.
