If you find yourself in Grand Haven this week, be prepared!

The 12th annual Michigan Pirate Festival is happening Tuesday through Saturday, so Grand Haven will be invaded by fun-loving pirates.

Larry Halverson with the Loutit District Library which hosts the festival, and Stella Durham, also known as Admiral Morgan, from the Brethren of the Great Lakes, joined Stateside to tell us about this week's events and the importance of remembering "that we have a kid inside all of us."

Listen above to hear how the festival got its start in Grand Haven, some details about legendary Great Lakes pirates, and why imagination and playing pretend are key at the festival.

This is part of a series that explores some of Michigan's more unusual summer festivals.
