Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox is praising a federal judge’s ruling striking down part of the federal health care reform law.
The federal judge ruled the health care law is unconstitutional because it requires all Americans to buy insurance. The Justice Department plans to appeal.
Mike Cox has been using his authority as Michigan’s attorney general to challenge the health care law. Michigan is part of a lawsuit with 19 other states and the National Federation of Independent Business. The suit alleges that the new law infringes on the sovereignty of the states.
Cox says the judge’s ruling in the Virginia case gives him hope that Michigan’s lawsuit will be successful.
A federal judge in Florida is scheduled to hear motions in Michigan’s case this week.
