Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital is joining a national health care network run by the Mayo Clinic.
Sparrow Hospital is not being bought by the Mayo Clinic. But instead the Lansing hospital, which also has facilities in St. Johns and Ionia, is joining the Mayo Clinic Care Network.
As part of the network, Sparrow Health Systems president and CEO Dennis Swan says the hospital will gain access to the Mayo Clinic’s leading edge medical resources.
“The real value in this relationship is inherent in the contact that our physicians have…the access to the data that is there…and the fact that we can actually work together. That’s really what it’s all about,” says Swan.
David Hayes is the network’s medical director. He says the Mayo Clinic will also benefit from the relationship.
“It gives us all the opportunity to elevate the level of health care in the United States,” says Hayes. “Is that tangible to the Mayo Clinic? Well, actually it is. Because our best interest is the best interest of health care in the U.S. and everybody else.”
Sparrow is paying an undisclosed fee to be part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network.
Swan says patients won't be charged extra when Mayo Clinic physicians are consulted.
