A new report ranks the healthiest and least healthy of Michigan’s 83 counties.
Ottawa County topped the rankings as healthiest, while Wayne County placed at the bottom.
But there’s no geographic pattern to the rankings put together by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin researchers.
Matt Davis is the chief medical executive with the Michigan Department of Community Health. He says the counties at the top of the list do have a few things in common.
“Those communities are the ones that are providing the best opportunities for people to live healthy, take care of themselves and get timely and appropriate health care,” says Davis.
As for those counties on the bottom of the list, Davis says things like poor housing and unemployment are significant factors.
