The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is launching a private health insurance marketplace September 1st.
Jason Russell is the senior director of the chamber’s Department of Insurance Services.
He says the intent of the new marketplace is to help small businesses and insurance agents deal with an increasingly complex health insurance landscape under the Affordable Care Act.
“The platform is a tool so that the agents can work with their clients and provide their clients with streamlined access to affordable quality coverage,” says Russell.
Russell says a lot of Michigan businesses are set to renew their health insurance plans in the fourth quarter of the year.
“That’s when we’re going to see a concentration of small businesses having to comply with this legislation and really start to face all these changes,” says Russell, “And at that time things will get significantly more complicated.”
Michigan businesses are not the only ones getting ready for changes to Obamacare.
Many of the health plans that more than a quarter million Michiganders signed up for last year are expected to cost more next year.
