There’s another problem connected to Flint’s troubled city water supply.
The University of Michigan-Flint sent an email this week to people on campus, warning of elevated levels of a disinfectant by-product known as Total Trihalomethanes or TTHM in the water on campus.
TTHM has been a problem before. The city of Flint was cited for violating the Safe Drinking Water Act last year for having elevated levels of TTHM.
While city officials insist TTHM has fallen to acceptable levels, the water department continues to send out notices to city residents because the city remains in violation of standards.
City crews have been flushing water lines around campus to reduce the problem.
A university official says the new TTHM levels on campus should not pose a health risk to most people. The advisory suggests that anyone concerned about the issue can use bottled water, or use a filter for tap water in university buildings.
