As many as 20,000 runners and walkers will take part in the Crim Festival of Races this weekend in Flint.
This week, the Crim Fitness Foundation announced a partnership with the University of Michigan-Flint to expand its campaign year-round.
Gerry Myers with Crim says the partnership with the university is intended to expand their fitness mission year round.
“You can’t have a healthy community if the individuals are obese and the health conditions of the populations (are) not good,” says Myers.
University Chancellor Susan Borrego says the university will offer space to work and support to the Crim Foundation.
“We will be providing research to some of the different initiatives that the Crim Foundation is implementing,” says Borrego.
This fall, U of M Flint plans to launch a $40 million capital campaign. Borrego says the new partnership with the Crim Fitness Foundation will be a consideration as they make their plans for the campaign.
This is the 39th year for the Crim races in downtown Flint.
