For many, Thanksgiving is stressful in a typical year. This year add in economic uncertainty, political conflict and a surging COVID-19 pandemic.
Travel restrictions will keep some families apart. Economic troubles and political divisions may make family get-togethers even more stressful.
Dr Michelle Riba is a clinical professor and associate director of the University of Michigan Comprehensive Depression Center. She suggests focusing on positives and reaching out to those who can’t travel to the Thanksgiving table this year.
“Of course there’ll be some people who might be alone...and on top of already feeling isolated and not being able to interact with friends and family,” says Riba.
Riba recommends using Zoom or Skype to connect with distant friends and family members and sharing similar desserts during the Thanksgiving meal.
