A Michigan Boy Scouts official says it's "painful" to look back on the sexual abuse that took place over a 25-year period and that came to light in the release of a nationwide archive.
Boy Scouts of America has an estimated 78,000 members in Michigan.
The Associated Press reported Oct. 19 on the nationwide Boy Scouts of America files for 1960-85, which the Oregon Supreme Court ordered released in a civil case. The files now available online include reports on 52 Michigan Boy Scouts leaders.
Richard Fisher is director of the Scouts' Great Lakes Council, which includes southeastern Michigan's Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
He tells the Detroit Free Press that the movement has "mis-stepped" in the past and says "children were hurt."
