Gov. Snyder signed several bills into law today that he says will strengthen communities and protect taxpayers.
This morning, Michigan Public Radio Network's Rick Pluta reported Rick Snyder signed an updated local emergency manager law to replace the one rejected last month by voters.
Mr. Snyder also signed 18 other bills ranging from extending school loan programs to tracking pollution.
In a press release, the Governor said the new laws protect the Michigan economy.

“They also respect the needs of citizens and taxpayers by delivering greater oversight and efficiency. Our reinvention of government is delivering meaningful reforms that will keep Michigan on the path to prosperity," he said.
Here's a complete list of the new laws with links to their complete language:
- SB 865: Allows for the option of instituting an emergency manager in a local government or school district.
- SBs770, 771 and 772: Regulate school district loans and extend the School Bond Loan Program and the School Loan Revolving Fund.
- SB 1281: Changes the definition of payroll debit cards to include cards issued by a third party on behalf of a bank or credit union.
- SB 130: Changes how automobile and home insurers can set premiums.
- SBs 1283,1284 and 1285: Exclude loans not used for personal, family or household purposes from the definition of “mortgage loan.”
- SB 1308: Revises the internal grievance procedure requirements for health insurers and health maintenance organizations.
- SB 1328: Streamlines the regulatory approach to evaluating sites of environmental contamination.
- SB 1336 and HB 5917: Eliminate the Occupational Health Standards Commission and the Construction Safety Standards Commission.
- HBs 5836, 5837, 5838, and 5863: Repeal the obsolete Savings and Loans Act of 1980.
- HB 5890: requires an insurance agent to notify Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation of his or her email address instead of charging a $3 fee them to change his or her mailing address on file.
- HB 5891: Eliminates "unnecessary" requirements for automobile insurance providers.
