Governor Rick Snyder says new FBI crime numbers show there’s still work to be done to make Michigan cities safer.
Flint and Detroit topped the FBI’s list of most-dangerous cities, which is based on 2011 data.
But Governor Snyder says the state’s been aggressive about public safety, especially in Detroit, where violent crime rates have improved.
“A new police chief, new police vehicles. There’s a lot of collaborations going on now, not just with state agencies, but with federal agencies, including the U.S. attorney, on how to address crime,” says Snyder, “and we’re looking at how we can do those kind of similar kind of steps in Flint, Pontiac, Saginaw.”
Snyder says Pontiac and Saginaw have unacceptably high crime rates, but notes they have dropped off the list of most dangerous cities.
